Jesus delivered us from a place of spiritual death, having no spiritual life. We already knew the life that would bring the end result of death, but not the death (repentance) that would bring resurrection to our hearts to live again. He doesn’t want us dwelling in the tombs once we’ve been resurrected. Tombs offer no life. Spiritually speaking, sin offers no life to the Christian. Jesus delivered us from those things, and He wants us to move far beyond a dwelling place that sits near the tombs (sin).

The beauty of the journey doesn’t rest on the material things that are accumulated. The beauty of the journey is from a life well-lived that is full of things from the heart. Not every family has access to earthly riches, but every family has access to all that God offers if they will simply allow Him to lead.

In the very moment the pressure to turn away from the Lord and return to the ways of our old lives is greatest, we must take our minds back to the day we committed to God. We need to remember that we chose that day to serve the Lord. The choice did not include exception clauses. We surrendered ourselves to the Lord and were determined our lives belonged to Him eternally.

Love appears in many, many additional ways, and there are multiples times and places for each of us to express our love for others. Let us always remember that Jesus has also expressed His love to us, and that we are a blessed people who have experienced love.

What exactly is spiritual health? Different people may describe it in different ways, but an easy definition is simply having a right relationship with God that is connected, maturing and blooming in the ways of our Savior and not settling for stagnation. Just as it is with a person who needs to lose weight or someone who needs to stop a bad habit.

A life consumed by our Savior is the most blessed life a person can live. To give Jesus full control of our lives and allowing Him to guide us by His Word will bring unforeseen blessings that money cannot buy and friends cannot give to us. Peace in our hearts and minds is priceless. Strength and comfort through the Spirit of God is priceless. The body of Christ with the many members who make up the loving church family of friends who love us and pray for us is priceless. The guidance to walk in righteousness with the results of a blessed life is priceless.

Consistently reminding ourselves that life in Christ is an abundant life with power and newness is part of our winning combination for abundant life. Transforming our mindsets to what God wants us to be and who He also says we are adds to it. Faithfulness to Him with using the power of the tongue for life when speaking to ourselves all add up to a winning combination for battling the doubts and insecurities we battle with in our minds.

There is a beautiful spiritual application in this story that applies to us today. In the Bible, the word “oil” is used at times to signify the Holy Spirit of God. We can look at the story of the woman and her single jar of oil in relation to how the Spirit of God works.

Jesus saw up close the ways of humanity when He walked on Earth for 33 years. His purpose for coming had everything to do with our fallen nature needing saved from sin. While the power of the Holy Ghost helps us to overcome sin, we are still in a fleshly body that is going to mess up at times. The beauty of it all? God is the God of second chances. In all honestly, He is really the God of many, many chances.
